What Adwalton Means to Me 3 of 17

3. Paul Bennett

I moved to Gildersome from Lincoln when I was 11 and ended up going to school at Morley High and had Rob Child (Paul’s son) Jatinder Sian (Jag x 2older brother) and Jonny Atkinson in my class who all became friends and all played at Adwalton so spent a lot of time walking across the fields to play/practice.

Influences
Early doors Paul Child taught me the fundamentals of the game, good defence, how to field properly. Later on Russell Laycock got me into coaching kids, thinking about the game. I do remember watching a tear away fast bowler on a Saturday when I was 11/12 shaggy blonde hair who had quite a bit of influence on me but not sure what happened to him.

Memories
Getting promoted to div 2 of bcl was a good year, being top of that division and in cup semi final year after, watching Stuart Jackson bludgeon a ball further than I have ever seen whilst Gerry mytton would stroke it but make it go just as far. Baggers was proper quick then even when made to bowl off 22 yds ?
Nothing will ever beat the last day win at Oulton to get promoted, playing with my two boys (just in case I didn’t mention it previously I got a few as well) - cried a lot, got drunk, cried some more then fell asleep at club .
Probably most proud of the junior team we built starting at U9s, managing to get them through to u17s and seeing a number of them still playing seniors for Adwalton. The day we beat Keighley at home in the cup will stay with me forever - Vinit’s 100 Tommy smashing 90 odd then bowling them out for not a lot with the ground full of people watching was as good as it gets .
Opening the batting with Josh, knocking off 150 with him getting his first 2nd team 50 was another good day.

I have always just loved the place, always felt like home and that has to come from the people who are involved or just drink there Gave me a lot as a kid and just glad I could give a bit back
