On their second away trip of the season, Adwalton's second team were against facing familiar opposition as they traveled to Hunslet Nelson. In the side was Simon Johnson, returning to his former club, as former Adwalton youngster Adam Nicholson limbered up for the opposing side.
Winning their first toss of the season, Adwalton took the chance to bowl first and allow the bowlers a less restricted attack at the other teams batsman. At first this worked well, with consistent bowling keeping the score down, but missing an essential breakthrough. The game was shifting towards Hunslet Nelson as opener Steve Burton reached his 50 and drinks were taken with the batting side at 85 for 1.
But following drinks James Emmott returned with an inspired spell that brought four wickets and began to turn the match back towards Adwalton's favour. There was however to be one more momentum shift as Danny Marshall and Scott Nicholson dug in for the 8th wicket and added 60 useful runs that may well have taken the game just beyond Adwalton's reach as they edged passed 200.
It didn't however matter that much as it was quickly realised that Adwalton were destined to get nowhere near that total in their reply. The top order were toppled for only 10 runs, including four ducks as the scoreboard displayed an embarrassing 10 for 5 after only 8 overs. Were it not for the resistance posed by Andrew Ingham with a valiant 24 and James Emmott, who should perhaps now be described as an all rounder, with 27 then the final total could have looked particularly bad. As it were Adwalton finished on 93, still not great, but a marginal improvement after such a horrible start.
