Jackson’s the ‘Thriller’ in five wicket defeat

For the third time already this season Gildersome were the second team opponents, but on this occasion it was on Adwaltons patch as the Moorside Vale club strove to become winners in this encounter for the first time this season.

Family commitments meant a rare appearance by usual first team player Dean Jackson who embraced the opportunity with both hands taking the Gildersome attack to the sword. Unfortunately he was the only person to do so, hitting 113 of the eventual total of 179. As the score suggests, little support was provided by those around him, as only two other players reached double figures, including Craig Wilson with a brief but impressive cameo.

Once again chasing, Gildersome’s young openers looked to put Adwalton to the sword, but Josh Bowles provided a new threat and dismissed them both. With opener Sachin Patel in fine form this season, it was going to take something special to provide a breakthrough and that came in the form of Craig Wilson, who put his goalkeeping reactions to good use taking a wonderful catch.
On the offensive, Adwalton took two more wickets, including that of captain Ashley Winn to provide an unexpected tension with the relatively low total they were defending. But Phillips Wiggins dug in, and his half century, along with some big hitting from Hanif Mansoor gradually took the visitors total over the required score.
