Adwaltons First team continued where they left off after last week’s emphatic 8 wicket victory over recently promoted Buttershaw St Pauls a with an emphatic 222 run victory over local rivals Gildersome.
In a heavily awaited contest, Adwalton were looking to prove their ability against a fellow first team. With Skipper Neil Laycock winning the toss, he put faith in groundsman Pete Goors wicket and elected to bat. Openers Paul Bennett and Stuart Donohoe, continued their good start to the season with the first wicket falling with 108 on the board, with donohoe (50) failing to spot the slowest of slow balls from the seasoned veteran Mel Wood.
Good support from Bagnell and Priestley followed before the swashbuckling Hotchen came to the crease to despatch a quick fire 31, with Bennett still at the crease, a big total was on the cards. Some tight bowling from Daniel Mathers led to Adwalton loosing further wickets and with 3 over’s to go, the Skipper joined forces with Bennett for him to carry his bat for an impressive 133NO.
Set a massive 312 to win, Gildersome got off to the worst start with Mel Wood being dismissed by Bagnell for a duck, clean bowled through his legs. Bagnell also removed opener Thompson with an easy catch in the gulley by Dean Jackson. Then up stepped Steve Laycock to bowl one of his best displays of straight bowling, ending with figures of 6 for 35. Bagnell chipped in with another wicket to finish on 3 for 48.
With the Gildersome secretary Paul Pearson unluckily injured in the field the innings ended early on 89 runs with M.Morley the only player to offer any real resistance (37)
Adwalton remain the top of Division 2 ahead of the short trip to Birstall a next week.
